The County Manager Planning Committee (CMPC)—a quarterly public planning session designed to gather ideas and collaborate with the community on new initiatives. These sessions will consist of just the County Manager and members of the public. No appointment or qualifications are required other than being a Long County resident.

Each session will be a 90-minute informal drop-in meeting, providing residents an opportunity to share ideas, concerns, and suggestions for improving our community.

Effective January 26, 2026, the Long County Board of Commissioners’ Office will operate under the following schedule:

  • Friday: Closed

We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation as we implement this change. Please plan your visits accordingly.

Convenience Center Changes

Due to staffing shortages, the Lanier Road Convenience Center will be closed effective Monday, January 26th. The County Shop Road Convenience Center will be open Monday-Wednesday, Friday-Saturday, closed on Thursdays and Sundays. We are working with All Green to move more containers to that site this week.

New protocols are now in place to ensure our residents in the county are the only ones using this site. Remember, no household garbage, tires, paint, or oil are allowed.

Mr. Bobby will require the following proof of Long County residency: driver license, vehicle tags, water or power bill.

Public Notice for Informational Purposes

January 9, 2026

Sales Tax Rate Change Effective January 1, 2026, the combined sales tax rate in Long County will be 9%. All businesses are advised to update point-of-sale systems, invoicing, and sales tax compliance reporting to reflect the new rate beginning on this date. This change in the sales tax rate is due to the Floating Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST), which was authorized by Long County voters in 2025.

Sales tax is administered and collected by the Georgia Department of Revenue.

County Manager Survey

January 8, 2026

We invite you to take a moment to complete this brief survey. Town hall meetings and community surveys help provide a better understanding of the concerns within our county. As we look ahead to 2026, we are interested not only in identifying challenges, but also in gathering your ideas and suggested solutions to the issues we face.

Public input and collaboration are essential to building a successful future for our community. The first town hall meeting will be held in the coming weeks, and responses to this survey will help ensure a productive and meaningful discussion.

Thank you for your time, support, and valuable feedback.

About Long County

Long County, historically and currently, is a rural, agricultural area. The principal farm crop was once cotton, but by the 1970s it had been replaced by tobacco, corn, soybeans, and cattle. The pine forests of the region have always played an important role in the economy.

Frontiersmen settling along the Altamaha River fastened logs together to form rafts that were floated downstream to the port of Darien for export, a practice that continued through the nineteenth century. During the twentieth century, five large paper mills opened within a fifty-mile radius of Ludowici, and Long County's economy was dramatically improved by new employment opportunities and a new demand for timberlands.

The northern tip of the county is occupied by Fort Stewart, the largest military installation east of the Mississippi River. Covering 280,000 acres (spread over several counties), the post, which includes forestlands and hunting preserves, provides many civil service jobs to local residents. Altamaha Technical College, which offers workforce training, operates a satellite campus in Ludowici.
